To become a notary public in the State of Mississippi, a candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Mississippi resident for more than 30 days
- Obtain an official seal or stamp to affix to documents
- Comply with the statutes governing Mississippi Notary Acts and maintain a registry of all documents signed
Every application for a notary commission shall be made on the Application for Notary Public Commission (SOS Form NP 001) and include:
- a statement of the applicant's personal qualifications;
- a four (4) year $5,000.00 notary bond* from a surety licensed by the Mississippi Department of Insurance;
- the official oath of office;
- such other information as the Secretary of State may deem appropriate; and
- the $25.00 application fee.
